Station 8

To serve the growing population on Youngstown's South Side, Station 8 was opened on July 26, 1908. at the intersection of Market and Glenaven. On June 4, 1909 it would receive the city's first piece of motorized equipment, a Webb combination Automobile Engine and Hose, placed in service as Automobile Engine and Hose No.8. This station would remain open until June 6, 1991 when the dept. was forced to close it due to budget concerns and the inability of the floor to support new, heavier apparatus. Station 2 was build just down the street less than a year later to cover 8's area. The top photo is of Station 8 in June of 2001, while the bottom was taken in 1910.
