The Governor Tod Firehouse The Governor Tod Firehouse was the first home of the fire department in the city of Youngstown. The fire station, and the engine it held, were named after Ohio's governor during the Civil War, David Tod, who, through his power in the city, helped to create Youngstown's first fire company. The station was opened in 1868 and ran a Sislby steamer. On September 14, 1871, the city's first hook and ladder company was organized with 50 members. The station stood until 1894 when the new Central Station was built on the same location.
