May 6-12 is Arson Awareness Week

The week of May 6th is Arson Awareness Week therefore the Unofficial Youngstown Fire Department Website would like everyone to be aware of the dangers associated with arson. Arson has an effect on the arson setter, the victims of the fire, the firefighters, the investigators, and those around the arsonist. In the first quarter of 2001, there were 33 arson fires. Ten were vacant structures and eleven were started by a child with a lighter. The total structure loss for the first quarter was $243,410. There were also fourteen cars set fire to and total damages there were $63,700. These numbers taken from the Youngstown Vindicator and cited from the Youngstown Fire Department.
