Job Opportunities

The last Civil Service Exam for the Youngstown Fire Department was held June 3, 2000. The first step to beginning a career on the Youngstown Fire Department is to take the Civil Service Examination. It is held every two to three years. The fire chief determines when the exams are held. After a testing date is chosen, it is announced in the local paper, the Youngstown Vindicator.

Youngstown's starting pay for firefighters is $22,500. Top pay is $39,300. Youngstown works a 51.4 hour work week, using a 1 day on/2 days off system with 3 shifts.

I am not affiliated with the fire department and have no advanced warning when the test is offered. If you live in the area, please check the Youngstown Vindicator's local section and in the classified section for civil service posts.
