1973 Mack CF 75’ Tower Ladder/ Ladder No. 24

In 1973, Youngstown, like so many other departments in the country, would begin a tradition of buying Mack CF fire apparatus by purchasing a 75-foot tower ladder. This truck would be put into service at Station 13 as Ladder 24 and find its way into bays at stations 1 and 8 before its service life was over. When the age of Station 13 finally began to be a problem, the truck was moved to Station 8 on Market St., but not before some minor changes were made to the station. The truck was too tall to fit into Number 8's bays. Therefore, approx. 1.5 feet of brick was removed from the height of the door, giving Ladder 24 enough clearance. Eventually, age caught up to Number 8 as well, and both stations were declared unsafe. This truck was replaced in 1992 by a Duplex-Grumman 102' ladder truck after serving almost 20 years. This trucks serial number is CF685FAP-1580.
